be動詞の過去形の基本 The basics of the verb 'to be' in the simple past tense

英語において、動詞の形を過去形にすることで、過去の時制を表します。 そして、主語の過去の状態や存在を表現するときは、be動詞の過去形を使います。 be動詞の過去形では、am と is は was に変化し、are は were に変わります。 このように、be動詞の過去形には2つの形が存在します。

In English, we express the past tense by changing verbs to their past forms. We typically use the past tense of the verb 'to be' to express the past state or existence of a subject. In the past tense of the verb 'to be', 'am' and 'is' change to 'was,' while 'are' becomes 'were,' giving the verb 'to be' two forms.
